Wilbur J. Darby, 74 of Washington, died Sunday, December 02, 2007 at Mercy Hospital following a short illness.

Funeral Services have been set for 2:00 PM Thursday, December 6, 2007 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor James Cluney officiating. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post #29. Visitation will begin at Noon Wednesday at the Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 PM. A general memorial in the name of Wilbur J. Darby has been established at the Funeral Home.

Wilber was born December 13, 1932 in Washington, IA the son of Jay F. and Florence (Darnell) Darby.

He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was employed as a farmer, worked at a Rock Quarry and drove a truck for many years retiring from JB Hunt. He was a member of the Wayland Area Tractor Club and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed antique tractors and restoring them.

Survivors include daughters, Loretta Rice and husband David of Washington, Elizabeth “Beth” Darby of Washington, Shirley Schrock and husband Clarence of Washington and Betty Harland and husband Lee of Kalona; brothers Harold Darby of Washington and Homer Darby of Paradise, CA; step brothers Charles “Bub” Darby of Ainsworth, John Darby of Tulsa, Ok, Russell Darby of Mt. Pleasant, Roger Darby of Columbus Junction, Carl Darby of Sharon Center; step sisters, Jo Ann Firestone of Tulsa, OK, Dorothy Kohues of Minneapolis, MN, Ruth Darby of Riverside, CA and Marsha Gail Darby of Iowa City; twelve grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert and step sister Mary.
