Warren A. Schlatter, 84 of Wayland, died Monday evening, April 14, 2003 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Funeral Services have been set for 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 17, 2003 at the Eicher Mennonite Church north of Wayland with the Rev. Melvin Koehn officiating. Burial will be in the Eicher Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Wednesday at the Eicher Mennonite Church with family present from 3-8:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to Mennonite Disaster Service or Hospice of Iowa City. Beatty Funeral Home of Wayland is assisting with the arrangements.
Warren was born March 1, 1919 south of Wayland, IA, the son of John A. and Nettie (Eicher) Schlatter. He attended Flower School south of Wayland. On May 21, 1939 he was united in marriage to Bessie May Baker at the Eicher Mennonite Parsonage.
He was a member of the Eicher Mennonite Church. Warren farmed and raised Black Angus cattle, drove a truck for many years, hauling grain and livestock. He enjoyed horses and his family.
Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Sommer and husband Keith of Pandora, OH., Nancy Brenneman and husband Ron of Wellman, IA. and Mary Marner and husband Ken of Kalona, IA, brother, Glenn Schlatter of Mt. Pleasant, IA. and sister Mabel Krehbiel of Miami, FL., four grandchildren, Heidi Sommer Simones and husband Joe of St. Lois, MO., Christian Sommer of Bowling Green, OH., Amy Brenneman of Mt. Pleasant, IA. and Jacelyn Marner of Kalona, IA. many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bessie, August 10, 2001, granddaughter, Justine Marner and son-in-law, Dale Roth.
