A celebration of life for Wanda E. (Pence) Hertig, 91, of Wayland will be held Tuesday, January 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Eicher Mennonite Church in Wayland with Pastor Dave Schooley officiating. Burial will follow at North Hill Cemetery in Wayland. An open visitation without the family present will be Monday January 18 from 1-5 p.m. at the Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday from 1 – 2 p.m. at the Eicher Mennonite Church. A memorial fund has been established for North Hill Cemetery and Parkview Home.
Wanda Evelyn (Pence) Hertig was born September 8, 1924 in Delta, Iowa, the daughter of Ross and Gertrude (Durst) Pence. She graduated from Washington High School and did secretary work in the Washingon area until her marriage to Clinton Hertig on January 1, 1946 in Washington. Wanda was a homemaker and substitute cook at the Wayland and WACO schools. She taught piano and organ lessons and was organist at the Eicher Mennonite Church, where she was a member. Wanda was also active in Women in Mission group and enjoyed quilting and cooking.
Survivors include her sister in law, Loreta Pence of Washington, one nephew, Gary Pence of Washington, two nieces: Vicky Hertig of Seattle, WA and Denise Kluger of Eldridge, IA, three great nieces: Jennifer Morgan, Abby Leonard and Mikaela Mikkelsen, one great nephew, Dane Mikkelsen, one great great niece, Maggie and one great great nephew, Mason.
Preceding Wanda in death were her parents, her husband Clinton on May 19, 2014, one brother, Wade Pence, and in-laws: Harold and Velma Rixe and Donnie and Jean Hertig.
