Virginia Mae Tschantz, 93, of Washington, died Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Halcyon House in Washington. Her body has been cremated and a Celebration of her Life will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 28, 2023, at the United Methodist Church in Washington with Rev. Anthony DeVaughn officiating. Private family burial will be in the North Hill Cemetery, Wayland, IA. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with family receiving friends from 4-6:00 PM. Memorials in Virginia’s name may be designated to the United Methodist Choir, Halcyon House Good Samaritan Fund, or Hospice of Washington County.

Virginia was born in Milford, NE, the daughter of Thurlowe E. and Marion (Wittrig) Myers. She graduated from Wayland High School in 1948 and attended AIB in Des Moines, IA. She was united in marriage to Dwain Tschantz on August 19, 1951, at the Wayland Mennonite Church. Viriginia worked at the Wayland State Bank as a clerk, at Brakes Fabrics, and was a baker at the Halycon House. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Washington, T.T.T., PEO and several bridge clubs. She was a gifted musician, singing in the church choir, serving as organist for many years and teaching piano lessons for 34 years. Virginia enjoyed reading, playing Domino’s and Bingo at Halcyon House.

Survivors include three sons, Mike (Jan) Tschantz of Lancaster, SC, Rusty (Denise) Tschantz of Washington and Kendall (Heather) Tschantz of Washington; six grandchildren, Molly (Brad) Meier, Luke (Crystal) Tschantz, Melissa (Tony) Turner, Trevor (Vani) Tschantz, Elizabeth (Trevor) Hanshaw and Chad (Makyla) Pepper Tschantz; 17 great grandchildren - Ellis and Sutton, Avery and Carter, Ada, Hudson and Sullivan, Amari, Sawyer and, Parker, Easton, Genivieve and Luella and Ian, Cashden, Ryen and Teage; sister Barbara Hodge of Washington, brother Phillip (Lois) Myers of Golden, CO, and sister-in-law Arlene Myers of Wayland.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dwain on January 2, 2012, her brother Donald Myers, and brother-in-law William “Bill” Hodge.
