A memorial celebration of life for Virginia L. Soto, 90, of Wayland will be held Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the Wayland Mennonite Church with Pastors Kelly Slagel and Michael Swartzendruber officiating. Burial will follow at the North Hill Cemetery in Wayland. The family will greet friends from 9 AM until the time of the service. A memorial fund has been established for Parkview Home and Wayland Mennonite Church. Virginia passed into life eternal on her 90th birthday, Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the Parkview Home in Wayland.
Virginia Louise (Christner) Soto was born August 23, 1927 in Lee County, Iowa, the daughter of John Thomas and Agnes Dolly (Pickard) Christner. She attended school in the Mt. Pleasant School District. On November 10, 1946 she was united in marriage to Dale E. Richenberger in Troy, Missouri. Virginia worked at Yoder’s Hatchery in Wayland and was a Nurses’ Aide, working at Parkveiw Home, Mt. Pleasant County Home and the McCreedy Home. Years after Dale’s death in 1975, Virginia married Joe Soto on May 23, 1987. She was a 60 year member of the Wayland Mennonite Church where she was active in the Friendly Helper Sunday School class and the hobby club. Virginia was also a member of the Merry 8’s Pinochle Club, the American Legion Auxiliary and a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed puzzles, reading, pinochle, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters Vicki (Leland) Graber of Trenton, IA., Shelly (Mike) Bruegge of Washington, IA., six grandchildren: Jarod (Lisa) Graber, Cortney (Nicole) Graber, Dustin (Sonya) Graber, Holli (Adam) Lee, Justin (Ashley) Bruegge, Jillian (Jason) Chalupa, special niece and nephews: Shirley, John and Matthew Bashusen.
19 great grandchildren, two brothers: Homer Christner of Davenport, IA., Richard Christner of Denver, CO., Bonni Brock of Kansas City, MO., Patty (Ken) Rosen of Portland, ME., Loretta Rice of Davenport, IA.
Preceding Virginia in death were her parents, her husband Dale and her husband Joe, a son Tom Richenberger and siblings Howard, Basil, Doris and Darlene.
