A celebration of life for Viola "Vi" West, 91 of Washington will be held Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 10:00AM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Jim Cluney officiating. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be held at 9:OOAM Thursday until service time. A memorial fund has been established for the 1st Assembly of God Church. Viola West was called home Saturday, October 1, 2011 in the Brownlee Health Center at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington following declining health.
Viola (Blick) West was born August 27, 1920 in Grace Hill, Iowa the daughter of Robert and Ada Bell (Coates) Blick. She was united in marriage to Hubert C. West on October 17, 1936 in Los Angeles, California. Viola worked at Lockheed Martin Aircraft Company in Burbank, California for 30 years. She was one of the Rosie The Riveter's on the P38 Bomber, and later worked as a superviser on commerical airlines. She retired in 1977 and moved back to Washington, Iowa and worked as a nurse's aid for five years at the Halycon House. Vi was a member of the 1st Assembly of God Church in Washington.
Survivors inlcude one son, James and wife Donna West of West Point, Iowa, one daughter in law, Linda West of Palmdale, California, two daughters, Bonnie and husband Dale Fritz of Washington, Iowa, Sharon and husband Bill Llewellyn of Washington, Iowa, one sister in law, Irene West of Washington, Iowa, 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 12 great great grandchildren.
