A visitation for Jean Ehrenfelt, 90, of Kalona, will be held Sunday, April 8, 2018 from 1- 3 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A private family burial will be held at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Jean Ehrenfelt died Monday, April 2, 2018 at Mercy Hospital Hospice in Iowa City. A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona First Responders.
Verna Jean Cline Ehrenfelt was born on September 2, 1927, to John W & Gustal (Funkhouser) Cline in Moravia, Iowa. At the age of 5 months the family moved to Torrington, Wyoming, later moving to a ranch near Wheatland, Wyoming. She attended schools in Torrington and Wheatland. She returned to Iowa to finish school, graduating from Moravia High School in 1945. Jean was united in marriage to Kenneth Ward Ehrenfelt on September 3, 1949, in Cresco, IA. They made their home in Kalona where she worked at KCTC as a telephone operator from 1952 to 1965. She also worked for Welkona Turkey until 1967 when she started work at the University of Iowa Physical Plant office, later transferring to Residence Services as Secretary/Account Clerk until her retirement in 1985. After retiring, she and Ward traveled extensively to all United States. They also had many fishing trips to Canada and wintered in Port Aransas, Texas. The family enjoyed being together and shared many camping and fishing outings at the Bloody Run Trout Streams near McGregor, IA. Trips to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; Kona, Hawaii; Alaska, and many trips to the New England states, especially Maine, were very special.
Jean is survived by one son; Kenneth Ehrenfelt of Iowa City, and two daughters; Connie (Bill) Hamilton of Iowa City and Ronda Stickel of Des Moines. Grandchildren: Jeff (Heather) Stickel and Jennifer Stickel of Des Moines, Justin Hamilton of Iowa City, and Megan (Jared) Weiss of Johnston. Great grandchildren: Delanie and Delila Murphy, Sunne and Shea Stickel, Marley and Natalie Weiss, and Cooper and Drew Hamilton.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband K Ward Ehrenfelt in May of 2000, her Mother in 1995, and Father in 1978.
