Verna C Bender

Funeral services for Verna Bender, 67, of Kalona will be held Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 9:30 AM at the Amos Bender residence, 2710 560^TH Street SW, Kalona. Burial will follow at the Peter Miller Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Amos Bender residence on Thursday, October 5, from 10 – 12, 2 – 5 and 6-8 PM, and Friday, October 6, all day. The Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Verna C. (Yoder) Bender was born November 22, 1955, in Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Chriss and Eldora (Mast) Yoder.  She peacefully passed away at her home on October 3, 2023, at the age of 67 years 10 months, 11 days, following a battle with cancer.

She was baptized in the Old Order Amish Church and remained a faithful member until her death. On October 28, 1976, she was united in marriage to Perry Lee Bender. They lived in matrimony for 46 years.

Verna is survived by her husband, Perry, five daughters and four sons: Martha (Aaron) Miller, Sigourney, IA, Samuel (Sara) Bender, Brighton, IA, Dallas (Norma) Bender, Plains, MT, Marlene at home, Levi (Marilyn) Bender, Loraine (Gerald) Bontrager, Amos (Marlene) Bender, Katie Ellen (Dennis) Miller, Edna Mae (Jonathan) Stutzman all of Kalona. 46 grandchildren, three brothers: Cephas Yoder, Kalona, Wesley (Verlene) Yoder, Brighton, Samuel (Norma) Yoder, Kalona, two sisters: Edna (Perry T.) Miller, Windsor, MO, Louise (Tobias) Yoder and one sister-in-law Mrs. Bertha Yoder, Kalona.

Preceding Verna in death were her parents, two grandchildren, Joseph Miller and Owen James Bender, one brother Mahlon Yoder and one sister-in-law Emma Yoder.

The family wishes to thank everyone for their thoughtfulness, presence, prayers, food and support during her illness and death. Your love and support will long be remembered. May God bless you all.
