Verle Eugene Worley, 83 of Washington, died Thursday, September 27, 2007 at the Washington Care Center following declining health.

Verle’s body has been cremated and a Celebration of his life will be 10:30 AM Monday, October 1, 2007 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington with Pastor Brian Gentz officiating. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will begin at Noon Sunday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with family receiving friends from 5-7:00 PM. Memorials in the name of Verle Worley may be designated to Hospice of Washington Co. or the Immanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund.

Verle was born October 25, 1923 in Jefferson Co, Iowa the son of Clayton and Dorothy (Beliel) Worley. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Davis on September 22, 1945 in Chicago Heights, IL.

Verle was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the VFW. He served with the US Navy during WW II in the pacific theater. He worked in construction in his early years, operated the Gulf service station for many years and retired from Modine. He enjoyed hunting, helping farmers, mowing the neighbor’s yards and feeding and watching birds.

Survivors include his wife Evelyn of Washington, son Mike Worley and wife Joanne of Washington, daughter Pat Kilberger and husband Gary of Fairfax, IA, three brothers, Lester Worley and wife Rose Mary of Washington, Kenneth Worley and wife Bonnie of Burlington, IA and James Worley and wife Carolyn of Iowa City; sister Doris Mineart of Fairfield, IA; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Alice and brothers Robert and Raeford.
