Vera Parker

Vera Georgia Parker, 89 of Salem, died Saturday, July 10, 2004 at the New London Nursing and Rehab Center following declining health.

Funeral Services have been set for 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at the Salem Congregational Church with the Rev. Harold Dorsey officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will begin at Noon Monday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with family receiving friends from 6:30 -8:00 P.M. in the evening. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her name.

Vera was born November 10, 1914 in the Stockport, Iowa area the daughter of George Washington and Lillie Belle (Brown) Harter. She graduated from Stockport High School in 1933 and was united in marriage to Everett E. Parker December 23, 1936 in Fairfield, Iowa. He preceded her in death and later married Loren “Dutch” Mc Dowell who also preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church and attended the Salem Congregational Church. She was also involved with Eastern Star, adviser for the Rainbow girls, Christian Women’s Fellowship, New London Traveling Tigers camping club, Salem Kitchen Band and the Women’s Federated Club. Vera was a farm wife, baked wedding cakes and did embroidery for local businesses. She enjoyed gardening, canning, flowers, attending grandchildren’s athletic events and playing Rook.

Survivors include six daughters, Donna Upton and husband Jim of Mt. Pleasant, Dorothea Cochran and husband Bob of Donnellson, Doris Onorato and husband Jim of Salem, Susie Kuhens and husband John of Salem, Carol Mc Ginnis and husband Ronnie of Dallas City, IL and Cindy Rohdy and husband John of Farmington, IA; twenty-three grandchildren , thirty great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, four brothers, Ivan, Aaron, Marvin and Elmon, four sisters, Meda, Violet, Velma and Vercie, son Carl Parker and grandson, James Nicholas Onorato.
