Velma V. Henss, 92 of Wayland, died Sunday, July 13, 2003 at the Parkview Home in Wayland.
Funeral Services have been set for 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at the Wayland Mennonite Church with Pastor Gerry Klopfenstein officiating. Burial will be in the North Hill Cemetery. Visitation will began at Noon Tuesday at Wayland Mennonite Church with the family present from 6-8:00 in the evening. Beatty Funeral Home of Wayland in assisting with the arrangements. A memorial in the name of Velma Henss has been established in her name to North Hill Cemetery, Parkview Home or the Wayland Mennonite Church.
Velma was born February 25, 1911 in Wayland, Iowa the daughter of John F. and Barbara (Althaus) Wittrig. She was united in marriage to James Lawrence Henss on December 31, 1931 in Wayland, Iowa.
Velma was a lifelong resident of Wayland. She was an active member of the Wayland Mennonite Church, Delta Alpha Sunday School class, Dorcas Society and was a member of the Wayland Study Club.
Survivors include three sons, John L. Henss of West Des Moines, Iowa, Larry Henss and wife Ann of Indianapolis, IN and Jim Henss and wife Jan of Mt. Pleasant, IA; two daughters, Joan Lange and husband Leo of Iowa City, IA, Kathleen Meyer and husband Stanley of Wayland, IA; eighteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren a one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James in 1996 and two sisters, Arvilla Sweet and Marian Myers.
