Tomas Perez Valdivia, 55 of rural Wayland, died Saturday, September 2, 2017 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 11:00AM at St. James Catholic Church with Father Bernie Weir officiating. Burial will be held in Nayarit, Mexico at a later date. A memorial fund has been established for the Perez family. Tomas was born March 22, 1962 in Apulco, Zacatecas, Mexico, the son of Benjamin and Dolores (Valdivia) Perez. He was united in marriage to Maria M. Carrillo in Muscatine, Iowa on December of 1993. He was a member of the St. James Catholic Church and was currently employed with Maxwell Construction in Iowa City, where he had worked for 11 years. He had previous worked at IBP in Columbus Junction and Metro Group in Mt. Pleasant. He enjoyed farming, riding horses, attending rodeo’s, singing, dancing and making people laugh and bringing joy to others. Survivors include his mother Dolores, children, Mary Carrillo, Gustavo Perez, Griselda Perez, Gabriela Perez and Jesus Perez; siblings, Ramon Perez, Luz Maria Perez and Clara Perez; and 5 grandchildren: Yanuel, Angela, Yahir, Xiovani and Ezra. He was preceded in death by his father.
