Thomas Kent Christensen, 60 of Kalona, died suddenly Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. A Memorial Service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, July 6, 2008 at the Upper Deer Creek Mennonite Church, 3369 320th St., Wellman, IA, with Pastor Elmer Miller officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. His body has been cremated and burial will be at a later date. Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona is assisting with arrangements. A general memorial in the name of Thomas Kent Christensen has been established. Thomas was born December 8, 1947 in Atlantic, Iowa the son of Svend Burge and Kathryn (Ross) Christensen. He graduated from Atlantic High School, received his Bachelors Degree in Education from U of I and received his Master Degree in Behavior Disorder, also at the U of I. He was united in marriage to Sherry Britsch on September 15, 1984 at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, IA. He was employed as a teacher at several area schools including Tri-County, Iowa City High and Washington. He was a member of the Upper Deer Creek Mennonite Church and enjoyed baseball, coaching little league, traveling, gardening, tennis, working out and was an avid Cubs and Hawkeye fan. He was also a Boy Scout leader. Survivors include his wife Sherry of Kalona, son Erik Christensen of Kalona, daughter Desire Christensen and husband Robert Kaye of Iowa City, IA; brother Ross Christensen and wife Pat of Waterloo, IA and sister Karla Smit of Atlantic, IA He was preceded in death by his parents.
