Ted Saforek

A celebration of life for Ted L. Saforek, 79 of Washington, will be held Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 10:30AM at the Fern Cliff Evangelical Free Church in rural Wayland, with Pastor Bob Spilger officiating. Burial will follow at the Fern Cliff Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon until 7PM on Tuesday, November 22 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, where the family will greet friends from 5-7PM. A general memorial fund has been established. Ted Saforek died Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic.

Ted Leland Saforek was born January 8, 1932 in Anaheim, California, the son of Jesse "Jack" and Dorothy (Thompson) Saforek. He graduated from Wayland High School and joined the United States Navy where he served during the Korean War as an air traffic controller. On May 17, 1953 he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Nebel at the Nebel farm in Noble, Iowa. Ted worked as a carpenter and owned his own carpenter business and later was a co owner of the Wellman Lumber Company. He attended the Fern Cliff Church, and was a former member of the Jolly Men's Club in Wellman. Ted enjoyed eating ribs, reading; especially subjects like history, trains, planes and ships. He enjoyed life and was well known for his sense of humor.

Survivors include his wife Mary Ellen of Washington, one son, Leland and wife Mary Lou Saforek of Wayland, Iowa, one brother, Robert and wife Flo Saforek of Rockaway Beach, Missouri, three grandchildren, Nichelle and husband David Kubik, Morgan and husband Mat Rechkemmer and Drew Saforek.

Preceding Ted in death were his parents.
