A celebration of life for Susan "Susie" A. Staats, 50, of Columbus Junction will be held Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Presbyterian Church in Columbus Junction with Pastor Faye Fedlam officiating. Susie's body was donated to science to further the study of cancer. Her cremains will be buried at a later date in the Columbus City Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice. Susie Staats died Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Susan Annette (Hills) Staats was born August 27, 1962 in Muscatine, Iowa. She was the daughter of William "Bill" and Kayrn (Bell) Hills. She graduated from Columbus Junction Community High School in 1981. On September 19, 1981 she was united in marriage to Rodney Staats in Columbus Junction. Susie worked at Tyson for many years and she was most recently employed cleaning houses. She was a member of the Columbus Junciton Presbyterian Church and enjoyed traveling, watching dirt track races and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors inlcude her husband, Rod Staats of Columbus Junction, Iowa, two sons, Robert (Ashley) Staats of Rolla, Missouri, Mitchell (Emily) Staats of Boone, Iowa, two grandchildren, Dylan and Sophia Staats, her mother, Karyn Hills of Columbus Junction, Iowa, two brothers, Ted (Lisa) Hills and Tony Hills both of Columbus Junction, Iowa, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Preceding Susie in death was her father, William Hills, a son, Barry Staats in 1989, one sister, Kim Clark and two brothers, Jimmy Bell and Tim Hills.
