A celebration of life for Stanley "Tony" A. Guerra (Burkholder), 56 of Wellman, formerly of Iowa City, will be held Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. Burial will be held in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 5 from 5 -7 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A general memorial fund has been established. Tony Guerra died Saturday, February 1, 2014 at his home in Wellman.
Stanley "Tony" Anthony Guerra was born November 3, 1957 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Robert Cantu Guerra and Josephine Dauboin. At the age of 20 months Tony became a foster child of Clarence and Hilda Burkholder. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School and attended college for three years. He joined the United States Army and served in Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi and Germany. He was trained as a diesel mechanic in the Army and later worked in construction. Tony moved to Wellman from Iowa City two years ago. He was a member of the Wellman American Legion and enjoyed fishing, wood carving, Indian beading and hiking.
Survivors include eight siblings; Carlos Guerra of Washington, Emma of California, Albert Guerra of Chicago, IL, Bessie of Chicago, Robert Guerra of California, Josephine(Roy) Frost of Arkansas, Beatricce of Ottumwa, Carol (Chris) Hagemeier of Wellman, IA, and 17 nieces and nephews and a number of great nieces and nephews.
Preceding Tony in death were his mother; Josephine Dauboin, his foster parents; Clarence and Hilda Burkholder, his sister; Margie and his foster great grandparents; Will and Hettie Hoylman.
