Stanley L. Miller, 79, of Wayland, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice in Burlington. Celebration of life services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 9, 2024, at the Independent Bible Church in Wayland with Pastor Ben Linville officiating. Burial will follow in the Sugar Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 1-4:00 PM, on Sunday, December 8, 2024. The Beatty-Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. A memorial fund for the Independent Bible Church has been established.
Stanley Leroy Miller was born June 1, 1945, the son of Orval J. and Alberta (Boese) Miller in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He was raised on a farm near Wayland with two brothers (Steve and Sheldon) and one sister (Lucy Leichty). He attended the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church as a child and later attended Independent Bible Church. Stan attended grade school and high school at Wayland. On June 16, 1963, he married Karole Scarff at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, Wayland, IA. Three daughters were born to them: Shelley (Phil) Greiner of Washington, Jodie (Jeremy) Loving of Lockridge and Julie Harbison of Wayland, they also were blessed with seven grandchildren: Justin, Zachary, Lindsey, Ashley, Skye, Wyatt, and Hailey, and nine great-grandchildren: Laci, Colbi, Ella, Cash, Knox, Kaden, Tyson, Nova and Gatlin.
He owned and operated his own trucking business for over 50 years. He enjoyed tinkering with the semi and his antique tractors. He was a member of the Wayland Area Antique Tractor Club. He loved talking with people and especially enjoyed playing with and teasing his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father Orval J. Miller in 2008, his mother Alberta M. Miller in 2015, and his wife Karole in 2023.
