Stanley Doig, 96 of Washington, died Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the Washington County Hospital following a short illness.
An informal gathering of coffee and fellowship in Stanley’s Honor will be from 1-3 PM Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at the Beatty Funeral Home. Memorials may be designated to the Washington Tree Committee. His body will be cremated and will be interred at the Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date.
Stanley, born February 21, 1914 on the family farm southwest of Washington, Iowa was the son of Henry and Gertrude (Sutherland) Doig.
He was a life long farmer in the area, was a member of Farm Bureau and hosted the daily coffee club for the neighborhood. He enjoyed airplanes, flying, baseball, playing checkers and was a talented woodworker. He retired to Halcyon House in March of 2007.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Hazel (Doig) Long and Marion (Doig) Haney.
