Celebration of Life services for Shirley A. Rath, 53 of Kalona will be held Monday, March 15 at 10:30AM at the Kalona Mennonite Church in Kalona with Pastors Gerry Kahler and Mike Orthel officiating, burial will be held at 3:00PM at the Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 14, 2010 from 1:00 a�" 8:00PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona where the family will greet friends from 1-4 and 6-8PM. Shirley Rath died Thursday, March 11 at her home in Kalona following a 10- month battle with cancer. Shirley was born December 28, 1956 in Burlington, Iowa the daughter of Carl J. and Gladys (Hillyard) Schulz. She graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1975 and Iowa Wesleyan College in 1979 with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in nursing. She was employed by Washington County Public Health. Shirley was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing, reading, traveling, visiting and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include two children, Adam Carl Rath of Waukee, Iowa, Allie Jean Rath of Kalona, Iowa, fours siblings and spouses, John and wife Barbara Schulz of Burlington, Iowa, Jane and husband Ken Ferguson of West Des Moines, Iowa, Paul and wife Rita Schulz of Charlotte, North Carolina, Diane and husband Rick Pfadenhauer of Roland, Iowa, close friend Rick Stuck of St. Joseph, Missouri and a number of nieces and nephews. Preceding Shirley in death were her parents. A memorial fund has been established for the Tall Grass Prairie Center at UNI and Hospice.
