Shirley Patterson,79, of Wellman, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on January 14, 2023. She has chosen to be cremated. A memorial celebration of life will be held at the Parkside Activity Center in Wellman, on Sunday, January 29, 2023, from 4 -6 PM. A meal will be served. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery at a later date. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Shirley Rae Kuhns was born January 4, 1944, in Wellman, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence “Zip” and Verna (Beckler) Kuhns. She was raised in Wellman and attended Wellman Public School. Shirley lived in Wellman most of her life where she was well-known and loved by many. She had a generous soul and a heart for service. Shirley loved to cook and spent 28 years cooking and serving food at Cooper’s Café and Chat and Chew/CC Connection. She never knew a stranger and was willing to help anyone in need.
She is survived by her loving daughters: Cindy (Phil) Slaubaugh, Sheri (Greg) Winter, and Gina Cooper; step-children: Lory Young and Joey Patterson; grandchildren: Lindsey (Jon) Horak, Erin Groff, Josie Slaubaugh, Shane (Damaris) Durian, Spencer (Kara) Miller, Skyler (Zack) Winter, Levi (Gloria) McCroskey, Bryan (Amy) Patterson, Sara (Jake) Young, AJ Young, Devon (Ashley) Young, Stephanie Patterson, and Josh Patterson; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother Robert (Shirley) Kuhns, one sister Erma (Farrel) Statler and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters: Juanita (Jack) Seward and Fern (Donald C.) Yoder and her husband Jay Patterson.
