Shelley Diane (Glisan) Peiffer, 61 of Washington, passed peacefully surrounded by those she held dearest on Thursday, July 25, 2024. She succumbed to, what she knew from the start was an incurable cancer, with a quiet strength, grace and dignity to be admired.
Shelley was born February 10, 1963, in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of William and Colleen (Kerr) Glisan. She graduated from Washington High School and owned and operated a cleaning service for many years. Shelley loved music, being outdoors, and thrift shopping, but her claim to fame was her cooking. Her kitchen often smelled like a bakery with her famous rolls and bread baking in the oven or cooling on the counter. She was happiest when her home, and table, were full of family. Shelley valued family above all else and was always there for anyone in need of help, advice or just a good belly laugh. She had an amazing sense of humor and loved a good story. Her laugh was infectious and without it, the world seems a little quieter.
Shelley also loved family gatherings and wanted a "big funeral" so we'll be gathering to celebrate her life and legacy at the Farm Bureau Building, 427 Hwy 1 & 92N, Washington Iowa on Saturday August 3rd. Family will begin receiving guests at 1:00pm, the service will begin at 2:00pm with a pot luck dinner immediately following. Flowers and memorials may be sent to 2475 190th St. Washington, Iowa 52353 C/O Heather Tritle. A GoFundMe has been opened to help with burial costs. https://gofund.me/0d0224bb
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her children, Heather (Robbe) Tritle of Washington, Caley (Mike) Graham of Cedar Rapids, Jacob (Layla Pena) Peiffer of Washington and Aidan Peiffer of Washington; siblings, Carla (Dan) Jasper of Cape Charles, VA, Rick Kindred of Lone Tree, Tom Kindred of Washington, David Kindred of Lone Tree, Brenda Kindred of Cedar Rapids, Gail (Dale) Tinnes of Wellman, Julie Walters of Lone Tree, Larry (Jody) Glisan of Mt. Ayr, Ronnie Glisan of Algona, and Jim Glisan of Dallas City, IL; grandchildren, Khaven, Taylor, Clayton, Joshua, Amber, Ellie and Arabella; great-granddaughter Wrenley; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends whose memories, adventures, inside jokes and nicknames will hold special places in their hearts.
Shelley was welcomed in Heaven by her parents, daughter Amber Conry, sister Holly Glisan, and several extended family members. It was a party for sure!
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dan and the hospice staff for their compassion and loving care of Shelley during her final days with us. God bless each of you.
