Celebration of life services for Sharleen A. Freel, 79, of Kalona, formerly of Wellman, will be held Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Wellman with Pastor Mark Larson officiating. Burial will follow at the Wellman Public Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, September 2, from 4 – 7 pm at the First Baptist Church of Wellman. A memorial fund has been established for the First Baptist Church. Sharleen Freel died Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
Sharleen Ann Freel was born October 21, 1936 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Melvin L. and Marjorie (Blumenstein) Miller. She graduated from Wellman High School. On November 25, 1954 she was united in marriage to Wesley A. Freel at the First Baptist Church of Wellman. She was a farm wife and member of the First Baptist Church, where she served as organist for 60 years. She played for countless weddings and funerals and at Saturday evening Mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church for many years. Sharleen loved music, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and attending their activities.
Survivors include a daughter Deb (Bob) Yoder of Kalona, son Mike (Jan) Freel of Washington, daughter-in-law Chris Freel of Kalona, eight grandchildren: Shanna Freel, Jared (Sara) Freel, Matthew (Julia) Freel, Megan Yoder, Stephanie (Tyler) Weers, Brandon Freel, Jennifer (Logan) Schnoebelen, Mariah Freel, two great grandchildren: Ascher Freel and Nora Weers, and one brother, Bill (Karyl) Miller of Washington.
Preceding Sharleen in death were her parents, her husband Wesley, daughter Kathy Miller, son Steve Freel, granddaughter Allison Yoder, brothers and sisters-in-laws Duane Miller, Dean (Patty) Miller and Donnie (JoAnn) Miller.
