Ruth Arlene Wenger, 67 of Washington went to be with the Lord Monday, September 01, 2003 at her home following a lengthy courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral Services have been set for 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at the First Christian Church in Washington with the Rev. Rich Boyd officiating. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Tuesday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with the family present from 6-8:00 in the evening. Memorials in the name of Ruth Wenger have been established for Hospice of Washington County.
Ruth was born January 26, 1936 in Pekin, IL the daughter of Harry Carl and Florence Edith (Wright) Wagler. She was united in marriage to Franklin D. Wenger November 21, 1959 at the Wright Church in Wight, IA.
Ruth graduated from Oskaloosa High School and attended Iowa Teacher’s College (UNI) in Cedar Falls, IA. She taught school in Dallas Center, Keota, and Wyman and later worked at Washington County Public Health for several years. She was a faithful member of the First Christian Church of Washington and was an avid volunteer in the community. She served in many activities including Lending Hands, Foster Care and the American Cancer Society. Ruth was recognized in 2001 by Governor Vilsack for her many volunteer activities.
Mrs. Wenger is survived by her husband Franklin of Washington; daughter, Sherry Ann Dawson and husband Harold of Cedar Rapids, IA; two grandchildren (the love of her life) Luke Wayne (age 14) and Katy Marie (11) also of Cedar Rapids, IA; two brothers Ronald Wagler and wife Ellen of Wright, IA and David Wright and wife Sheryl of Oskaloosa, IA; sister, Linda Hawkins and husband Michael of Oakland, IL; sister-in-law, Marcella Humphreys of Iowa City, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
