Ruth Leichty Graber, 86 of Wayland, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Funeral Services have been set for 10:30 AM Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church with Rev. Bob Hartzler and Pam Unruh officiating. Burial will be in the Sugar Creek Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Friday at the Church with family receiving friends from 5:30 till 7:30 in the evening. Beatty Funeral Home of Wayland is assisting with arrangements. Memorials in the name of Ruth Leichty Graber may be designated to the Parkview Home new family room.
Ruth was born June 21, 1920 in Wayland, Iowa the daughter of Glenora (Peden) and Omar Swartzendruber. She was united in marriage to Leonard Leichty June 6, 1940. They lived in the Noble area for 45 years. He preceded her in death January 4, 1986, she then married Raymond Schlatter, who preceded her in death July 22, 1992. She married La Verne Graber October 10, 1998.
Ruth was a faithful member of the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, attended Wayland Mennonite, taught Sunday school and Bible School there. She was president of WSC, Old Threshers Auxiliary, president of the Parkview Home Auxiliary and Chaplin of the Gideon’s Auxiliary.
She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, baking rolls, traveling and being with family.
Survivors include her husband La Verne Graber of Wayland; children Irvin Leichty and wife Lucy of Wayland and Elaine Canby and husband Jim of Mt. Union; daughter-in-law Wilma Leichty of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, numerous stepchildren and step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, three brothers, Paul, Ed and Ronald, sister Ann Kauffman, son Dallas, and great-grandson Nicholas Taylor.
