Roy Miller

July 5, 1936 — October 10, 2008

Roy D. Miller, 72 of Wayland, died suddenly Friday, October 10, 2008 at the Washington County Hospital.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, October 13, 2008 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Don Lowe officiating. Burial will be in the Sugar Creek Mennonite Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M. Sunday at the Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 4-6:00 P.M. in the afternoon. Memorials may be designated to the Wayland Rescue Squad.

Roy was born July 5, 1936 in Kirksville, MO, the son of Willie Glen and Mabel Frances (Shumaker) Miller. He graduated from Ainsworth High School and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Luella Alliman, December 21, 1968 in Washington.

Mr. Millers various occupations included working as a mason, selling feed in the Mt. Pleasant area, working as a furniture salesman at Montgomery Ward in Iowa City, managing a Derby Gas Station in Coralville, and serving as a custodian at WACO for twenty-two years until his retirement in 1999. He was an active member of the Iowa Association of Building Maintenance Engineers, serving as President twice. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, Nascar, Cardinal baseball and the Chicago Bears.

Survivors include his wife Luella of Wayland; five children, Terry Kaufman and wife Bonnie of Mt. Pleasant, Sherry Kaufman Iaccarino of Davenport, IA, Ken Kaufman and wife Diana of Wayland, Dennis Kaufman of Wayland Lynne Reighard of Topeka, KS; daughter in law Donna Kaufman of Wayland; sisters Betty Hixon and husband John of Columbus Junction, IA and Wilma Craig of Washington; ten grandchildren and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Michael Kaufman, brother Louis Miller, sisters Wanda Parcell and Ruby Miller and one infant grandson Anthony.
