Rowena Margaret Myers, 89 of Washington, died Thursday morning, November 20, 2003 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and clinics in Iowa City.
Funeral Services have been set for 10:30 A.M. Monday, November 24, 2003 at the United Methodist Church in Washington with Rev. Don Hodson officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Primgahr, Iowa 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 25, 2003. Visitation will be Sunday Noon till 6:00 P.M. at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with family receiving friends from 2-4:00 P.M. in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in the name of Rowena Margaret Myers to the Halcyon House Good Samaritan Fund or the United Methodist Church.
Rowena was born February 14, 1914 in Primgahr, Iowa the daughter of Hugh Earnest and Nettie (Wood) Brown. She was united in marriage to Charles Goodell June 16, 1937 in Primgahr, Iowa. He preceded her in death April 8, 1972. Later she married Thurlowe “Dutch” E. Myers October 15, 1977 who preceded her in death January 10, 1994.
Rowena graduated from Primgahr High School, Morningside College where she studied music and St. Luke’s College of Nursing. Rowena and her family moved to Washington in 1961 with her husbands transfer to the Montgomery Wards Store.
She was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church and the church choir for many years. Rowena enjoyed music, family, playing the piano and in her early years the violin.
Survivors include three sons, Gregory Goodell and wife Kris of Shenandoah, IA, Gary Goodell and wife Peggy of Fairfax, VA and Jeffrey Goodell of Layton, UT; daughter Sandra Balfour and husband Ray of Madison, WI; thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and sister Doreen Hunt.
