Rose A. (Thomann) Amelon, 63, of Kalona, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, following a courageous battle with cancer. A funeral mass will be held Friday, February 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside with Father Bill Roush officiating. The burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Riverside. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 20, from 4 – 7 PM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside with a Rosary recited at 3:30 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family would like to thank the University of Iowa Hospital staff for the compassionate care given to Rose. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Rose Anne Amelon was born December 6, 1961, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, the daughter of Clement "Joe" and Elizabeth "Betty" (Frueh) Thomann. She graduated from Highland High School and earned an associate's degree in data computing from Kirkwood College. On September 15, 1984, she was united in marriage to Doug Amelon at St. Mary's Catholic Church. She worked at the University of Iowa in the Registrar's office until she retired in 2023. Rose was a member of Holy Family Parish, and enjoyed sewing, quilting, restoring and refinishing furniture and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband Doug; three children: Nick Amelon of Tiffin, Josh (Alyssa) Amelon of Riverside, Kayla Amelon of Hills; five grandchildren: Ali, Mackenzie, Clint, Wayne and Scott, her mother Betty Thomann of Hills, three sisters: Jane (Dave) Goesch, Mary Jo (Dave) LeBlanc, Donna Noldan, one brother Ken (Becky) Thomann; sister-in-law Charlotte Thomann, brother-in-law Pat Horesowsky, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Preceding Rose in death were her father, grandsons William and Edward Amelon, brother Ron Thomann, sister Joan Horesowsky, and brother-in-law Tom Noldan.
