A celebration of life for Rose M. (Emde) Brenneman, 90 of Kalona, will be held Friday, September 6, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the Kalona Mennonite Church. Burial will take place at 1:00 PM at Memory Gardens in Iowa Ctiy. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 5, from 5 – 8 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Iowa Lion's Eye Bank at 2346 Mormon Trek Bld, Suite 1500, Iowa City, 52246 and Iowa City Hospice at 1025 Wade Street, Iowa City, 52240. Rose Brenneman died Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Rose Marie (Emde) Brenneman was born December 4, 1922 in Washington County, near Wellman, Iowa, the daugther of William and Helen (White) Emde. She graduated from Wellman High School and taught at the following rural schools; Horseshoe Bend, Union and Prairie Flower. On August 4, 1943 she was united in marraige to Dan Brenneman in Des Moines, Iowa. Rose had been a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Joetown where she belonged to the United Methodist Women's group. She enjoyed taking care of children, crocheting and sewing "quiet" books for children.
Survivors include two sons; Ken (Barbara) Brenneman of Charleston, SC, Jerry Brenneman of Iowa City, IA, five grandchildren; Ashley (Laurie), Lisa, Jarrad, Lindsi and Nathan, former daugther in law; Sue Brenneman of North Liberty, IA, one sister; Marquerite Zook of Kalona, IA, sisters and brothers in law; Joanne Emde of Iowa City, IA, Mina Emde of Fresno, CA, Ada Fisher, Dave Brenneman, Irene Brenneman, Lois Gugel all of Kalona, IA, Virginia Ryan of Pinckney, MI, Wally (Millie) Brenneman of Kalona, IA and Jim (Eunice) Brenneman of Denver, CO, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Rose in death were her parents, her husband Dan, two brothers; Vernon and John Emde and one sister; Helen Emde.
