A Celebration of Life for Ronald L. Crawford, 92, of Washington, will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at 11:00 AM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook Page. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9 to 11 AM on Tuesday. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Washington County. Ron Crawford died Friday, December 24, 2021, at his home.

Ronald Leroy Crawford was born October 6, 1929, in Yarmouth, Iowa, the son of Dal and Lois (Barton) Crawford. He graduated from Mt. Union High School and received a bachelor’s degree in Animal Husbandry from Iowa State College. Ron served in the United States Army from 1952 until 1954. He attained the rank of sergeant and served overseas in Germany. On July 31, 1954, he was united in marriage to Janice Grant in Rockwell City, Iowa. They lived in Dows, Des Moines and Windsor Heights before moving to Washington in 1963. Ron was a hog buyer for Interstate Producers Livestock Association from 1963 until 1985. He also operated the Washington Roller Rink (with the help of his children) for about 4 years, where he was known as “Mr. Crawford.” Ron enjoyed playing golf, doing crossword puzzles and in 2015, was able to be a part of the Freedom Flight program to Washington DC.

Survivors include his wife, Janice of Washington; five children: Kevin (Lesa) Crawford of Ankeny, Lori Crawford of Washington, Galen (Jodi) Crawford of Ames, Jill (Kenneth) Steinsultz of Newburgh, IN, and Ken (Dawn) Crawford of Riverside; nine grandchildren: Matt (Megan), Brian (Kaile), Amy, Amanda (Ryan), Mathew, Madeline Steinsultz, Drew Steinsultz, Alec (Kim), and Cole (Lauren); eight great-grandchildren: Eliana, Cohen, Camille, Emmie, Cooper, Carter, Adalyn, and Crew; and two brothers: Wendell (Kathy) Crawford of Central Point, OR and Marvin (Evelyn) Crawford of Jacksonville, OR; along with many nieces and nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents..
