Visitation: Friday, Aug. 7 4-7 PM at Kalona Mennonite Church, Kalona Memorial Service Saturday, Aug 8, 11:00 AM Kalona Mennonite Church, Kalona Rollin J. Gingerich was born on June 15, 1915, near Joetown in Johnson County, Iowa. He was the son of Charles and Nettie Miller Gingerich. He attended Brush # 8 rural school. Rollin and Kathryn Kauffman were married on March 28, 1937. The couple farmed in the Parnell community for 53 years until retiring and moving to Kalona in 1990. Rollin was member of the Kalona Mennonite Church, a former member of the Kalona Coffee Klub, Kalona Optimist Club, Iowa Draft Horse Association, and had served on the board of Directors of the Patron's Mutual Insurance Co. Rollin was well known throughout the Mid-West as an outstanding horseman. He showed Belgium horses and mules at the Iowa State Fair, the National Belgian Show, Old Threshers Reunion, and many other shows and parades and was a well respected show judge. Rollin enjoyed training his horses and mules by working his farmland with them. Rollin is survived by his children and spouses, Faye and husband Clair Brenneman of Palmer Lake, CO, Warren (Butch) and wife Esther Gingerich of Kalona, Lois and husband Duane Beck of Raleigh, NC, Orval and wife Cleta Gingerich of Minneapolis,MN, daughter-in-law, Karen Gingerich of Parnell, 11 grandchidren, 14 great grandchildren, two sisters, Mary Wagamon of Washington, IA and Jeanne Wallerich of Keota. Also surviving are three sisters-in-law, Marjorie Gingerich of Wellman, Marge Gingerich of Williamsburg, and Phyllis Gingerich of Kalona. Preceding Rollin in death were his wife Kathryn (1997), son Don (1996), three brothers, Clarence (Pete), Wayne (Beaner), and Leo, two sisters, Hilda Fisher and Myrtle Rensberger. The family wishes to thank all who have been supportive during Rollin's final years, especially the caring personnel of Iowa City Hospice and the wonderful staff on 3rd floor of Pleasantview Home.
