On Wednesday, January 2, 2013, Roberta Mae Plattenberger, 87, of Martelle, IA, passed on at her home surrounded by her family.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Martelle United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Rollins officiating. Following the service there will be a meal in her honor at the church. Friends will be welcomed by the family until 4:00 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in the name of Roberta Mae Plattenberger has been established.

Roberta was born on July 18, 1925, to George and Ethel (Fulwider) Wilson of Mt. Vernon, Iowa. She worked in her father’s law office during high school. After graduation from Mt. Vernon High School in 1943 she attended Cornell College. She married Robert Plattenberger on February 18, 1945, in Mt. Vernon. The young couple moved to Martelle, where they farmed, raised a family, and lived together for nearly 68 years.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Roberta was very active in her church and community. Her dedication to children, the elderly, and those in need guided her quiet volunteer work.
She enjoyed time with grandchildren, cooking, gardening, quilting, reading, traveling, square dancing, drives in the country, and a good chocolate malt.
Survivors include her husband Robert of Martelle, daughters Margaret Sadeghpour-Kramer (Monte Kramer) of Mt. Vernon, Marilyn Bauch (Jared) of Traer, and Dr. Robin Plattenberger-Gilmore (Richard Gilmore) of Washington, IA; ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Barbara Helen, grandson Robbie Sadeghpour and a half sister, Luella Wilson Vaile.
Roberta and Robert traveled the world, but her heart was always at home.
