Robert “Bob” L. Marie, 74 of Washington, died suddenly Monday, August 16, 2010 in Washington.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Thursday, August 19, 2010 at St. James Catholic Church in Washington with Rev. Fr. Troy Richmond officiating. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Wednesday at the Beatty Funeral Home with family present from 5-8:00 PM. A rosary will be held at 4:30 Wednesday at the funeral home. A general memorial in the name of Robert Marie has been established.
Bob was born October 20, 1935 in Washington, Iowa the son of Leo W. and Mary Rita (Wolfer) Marie. He graduated from Washington High School in 1953 and was united in marriage to Joyce Hammen on June 22, 1955 at the St. James Catholic Church.
Bob was a member of the St. James Catholic Church, Knight of Columbus and the EAA. He farmed, worked for John Deere for many years as a mechanic and started Marie Electric in 1968. He enjoyed flying his airplane, and working on antique tractors.
Survivors include his wife Joyce of Washington, children Jean(Randy) Wehr of Washington, Joe (Linda) Marie of Washington, Don (Jackie) Marie of Washington, Linda Sue (Randy) Finke of Crawfordsville, IA, Marsha (Ken) Long of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Peg (Gary) Roberts of Brighton, IA; brothers Ferd Marie and Tom (Linda) Marie, both of Washington; sisters Joan Long of South English, IA, Virginia (Roger) Schuerman of Ainsworth, Margaret Marie of Washington and Martha (Robert) O’Rourke of North English, IA; eighteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother George, infant daughter Rita and brother in law Lee Long.
