Robert G. (Springy) Emde was born June 18, 1942, near Wellman, Iowa the son of Boyd and Wilma (Raben) Emde. He graduated from Wellman High School in 1960 and for many years farmed near Wellman.
On February 5, 1977 he married Susan Swartwood at Smith Memorial Chapel, Simpson
College, Indianola, IA
Robert was very active in 4-H, FFA, and the Washington County Fair Association. Recently he was honored at the Washington County Fair where he was admitted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame.
Robert enjoyed dancing and socializing. He truly loved visiting with people. That made losing his speech to strokes especially tragic. Following 17 years of illness, Robert passed away on September 5, 2014, at the age of 72, at Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
Robert is survived by his wife Susan and his cousins, Danny Jirsa and Rick Jirsa.
Memorials may be made in Robert's honor for the Washington County Fair Association, Pleasantview Home or Iowa City Hospice.
Visitation for Robert will be at the Peterseim Funeral Home, Wednesday, September 10 from 3:30 PM until graveside services at at 5:30 in the Wellman Public Cemetery, Wellman.
