A celebration of life for Richard “Dick” L. Mangold will be held Friday, March 24, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Rick Zickefoose officiating. Burial will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Old Memory Cemetery in New Market, Iowa. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 23 from 1 – 8 PM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, where the family will greet friends from 5 – 8 PM. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Washington County. Richard Mangold died Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at his home in rural Washington.
Richard Lee Mangold was born November 18, 1941 in Washington, Iowa, the son of Stanley Fredrick and Betty E. (McCartney) Mangold. He attended Dutch Creek Rural School and West Chester High School. Richard was united in marriage to Linda (Long) Manley in West Chester on February 15, 1992. He farmed with his grandfather and father and for 22 years he worked nights at Master Mix Feed Pellet Mill. Growing up Richard loved to make homemade ice cream with his family. He also enjoyed horses; raising and training them, tilling gardens and mowing yards for folks, helping other farmers, attending country music jams with Linda, having coffee with friends and enjoying time with his neighbors.
Survivors include his wife Linda of Washington, son Michael (Tammy) Manley of Belle Plaine, IA., four granddaughters: Jana, Hailey, Emmalise and Victoria Manley, and many nieces and nephews who were very special to him.
Preceding Richard in death were his parents, his brother Bill Mangold, sister Kay (Johnson) Stiegers and his nephew Jim White.
