Richard “Dick” Leon Widmer, 70 of Wayland, died unexpectedly Friday June 6, 2003 at his home in Wayland.
A Celebration of his life will be 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at the Wayland Mennonite Church with Pastor Gerry Klopfenstein officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Private family burial will be at a later date. Beatty Funeral Home of Wayland is assisting with the arrangements. Memorials may be designated to the Wayland Rescue Squad.
Richard was born January 27, 1933 in Wayland the son of Henry and Gladys (Roth) Widmer.
He graduated from Wayland High School and followed with the U.S. Army for three years, were he played in the Army band. He then attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant and De Vry Institute on Chicago. He worked for thirty years at I.B.M. in the Chicago area. Following retirement he traveled before settling in Wayland the last four years of his life. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Melbourne, FL and attended the Wayland Mennonite Church.
Survivors include his mother Gladys of Wayland, son Michael Widmer of Chicago, IL; two daughters, Janice Widmer of Naperville, IL and Anna Widmer Quintana and husband Robert of Ft. Atkinson, WI; sister, Melba Widmer of Cedar Falls, IA and three grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his father, second wife Dorothy and daughter Cindy.
