Richard Henry Simmering, 85 of Washington, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at the Washington County Hospital following a brief illness.
Memorial services have been set for 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 9, 2004 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. In lieu of flowers, family request everyone spend loving time with their families and friends in celebration of their love.
Richard was born December 17, 1918 in Washington, Iowa the son of Henry and Cecile (Shockley) Simmering. On September 28, 1943 he was united in marriage to Edna Mae “Marnie” (Kercher) in Calgary Alberta Canada.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Washington and a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers. He was a builder in Washington and the surrounding area for many years. He was self educated and dedicated to enjoying his children, grandchildren, great-grandchild and encouraging the pursuit of higher education.
Survivors include his wife Edna Mae of Washington; six children, Ted Simmering and wife Debbie of Byron, Il, Marnie Simmering of Waynesville, NC, Bob Simmering and wife Dorothy of Muscatine, IA, John Simmering and wife Jayne of Washington, Shelley Burton and husband Glen of Plano, TX and Meli Wilcox and husband Ian of Broomall, PA; brother Everette Simmering of Washington; thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert and sister Ruth Garrett.
