Richard Hayes

Funeral services for Richard "Dick" L. Hayes, 89, of Washington will be held Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 10 am at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Doug Tinnes officiating.  Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Friday, November 18 from 2 – 7pm at the Beatty Funeral Home, with the family present from 5 – 7pm.  A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Washington County and the Ronald McDonald House.  Richard Hayes died Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Haylcon House in Washington.

Richard Lee Hayes was born May 28, 1927 in Washington, IA., the 10th son of Lloyd and Lucetta (McNeese) Hayes.  He joined the United States Navy towards the end of WWII and served in China.  On September 21, 1947 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Chalupa at the Pleasant Hill Church.  Dick was a farmer until retiring in 1980.  He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Church and attended Faith Baptist Church until declining health prevented that.  He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, tinkering in his shop and going to their condo at the Lake of The Ozarks.

Survivors include his wife Evelyn of Washington, three children: Lloyd (Shelley) Hayes of Washington, Lucetta (Duane) Sobaski of Cedar Rapids, Marion (Christine) Hayes of Washington, eight grandchildren: Darrin Hayes, Alecia Wright, Daniel Hayes, Andrea Hayes, Amber Hayes, Annika Hayes, Zach Sobaski, Justin Sobaski and 10 great grandchildren.

Preceding Dick in death were his parents, his daugther Regina Bjorndal, son-in-law Randy Jirsa, daughter-in-law Debra Hayes, two grandsons: Richard and Adam Hayes, one great grandson Peyton Hayes, and nine siblings including two infants and Harold, Jerry, Cloyce, Don, Dwight, Russ and Merle Hayes.
