Rex Sinn

Rex Edward Sinn, 84 of Wayland, died Monday, June 25, 2018 at his home in Wayland.

Funeral Service have been set for 11:00 AM Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Bethel Mennonite Church with Pastor Robert Wolf officiating. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Family will receive friends from 9:00 AM till service time at the church on Thursday. A memorial in the name of Rex Sinn has been established to Hospice of Washington County. Beatty-Peterseim Funeral Service is assisting with arrangements.

Rex Edward Sinn was born at home on February 17, 1934 to Wade and Garnett Rich Sinn in Wayland, Iowa. After finishing school in Wayland, Rex went to work as a truck driver for Purt Nebel, hauling hogs and cattle. Rex married Corrine Vinton on March 24, 1955.

He was then drafted and did his basic training at Camp Chaffer Arkansas and spent the next 18 months at Loring Air Force Base in Maine.

After his service to our country, Rex and Corrine moved to Davenport, Iowa and bought two dump trucks. For the next four years Rex worked nights at Oscar Meyer and he and Corrine hauled gravel during the day…..Sinn trucking was established.

A couple of years later, Rex heard Purt Nebel was ready to retire, so Rex and Corrine bought his business on December 1, 1959 and returned to Wayland to haul cattle and hogs. In 1961, Rex started hauling turkeys for Louis Rich in West Liberty, Iowa  They hauled turkeys from Iowa, Missouri and Arkansas to West Liberty to be processed. The went as far as Texas for Turkeys on a few occasions. In 1976 Rex added two large wreckers to his business. He now had a team of 17 truck drivers working for him; thirteen drivers hauling turkeys, two working the wrecker calls and two driving the dump trucks hauling gravel and sand.

Rex and Corrine enjoyed traveling across the United States, Alaska and Canada in their motor home or on their motorcycles. They made many trips to Oregon to spend time with his older sister Evelyn and her family. In 1996 they gave up the turkey hauling and sold the wrecker business. They kept two dump trucks and hauled sand and gravel.

Corrine passed away in 2014. Rex continued to drive a dump truck until October of 2016. He sent a letter notifying his loyal customers of his full retirement at that time. Rex owned his trucking business for 58 years and spent 65 years of his life driving trucks.

After retirement from his business, Rex married Lola Arbogast on November 14, 2016. Rex was a faithful member of the Independent Bible Church in Wayland, Iowa for over 35 years and served as a Deacon for several years. Rex lived a full life, working hard at all he did, but he also had a great heart for service to others and when he saw someone in need, he did what he could to help, most often anonymously.

Rex in survived by his wife Lola; 8 step-sons: Denny (Laura) Black, Mike (Bev) Black, Bill (Sherry) Black, Larry Black, Steve (Denise) Black, Gary (Jackie) Black, Tom (Deb) Black, Brad (Bonnie) Black; sister Jane of Florida; many special nieces and nephews; sister in law Doris Hauenstein and Karen Fedderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Corrine, brothers, Dwayne, Bob and Larry, sister Evelyn and step son Douglas Black.
