Rex Marion Ray, 85 of Washington, died Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at his home following a short illness.
A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 28, 2006 at the United Presbyterian Church in Washington with Pastor Kitch Shatzer officiating. Visitation will begin at Noon Friday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 in the evening. Memorials may be designated to the YMCA or Hospice of Washington Co.
Rex was born July 29, 1920 in Groton, South Dakota the son of John V. and Bertha (Karnopp) Ray. He was united in marriage to Frances Hansen May 13, 1944 in Woodstock, IL. He served stateside with the U. S. Army during WWII.
He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and former Deacon, former member of the Washington Optimist Club, Isaac Walton League, Washington Historical Society and also was a Scoutmaster.
Ray and his wife moved to Washington in 1956 where he worked as a television and radio repairman for Western Auto and later co owned T.V. Lab. He also was a independent insurance and investment representative retiring in 1983. He enjoyed woodworking, drawing, and was an extremely good handyman.
Survivors include his wife Frances of Washington, daughters Carol Ray of Washington and Janet Ray and husband Howard Singerman of Charlottesville, VA, two grandchildren Lillian and Rosalie Ray an a sister in law Rita Ray of Columbus Junction.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harlan and Jim and an infant son Tom.
