Rex E. Allensworth, 84, of Kalona passed away, Sunday, May 30, 2010, at the Pleasantview Home, Kalona following a short illness. Celebration of Life services will be Friday, June 4 at 2:00 pm at the Kalona United Methodist Church, Kalona. Pastor Gerry Kahler officiating. Burial will be in the Sharon Hill Cemetery with Military rites by the Wellman American Legion and Washington American Legion Post Visitation will be Thursday, June 3 from 2:00 to 8:00pm at the Peterseim Funeral Home, Kalona. A Masonic service will be held at the Peterseim Funeral Home evening at 7:30 pm. Rex Allensworth was born March 27, 1926, the son of Winn and Ethel (Pilcher) Allensworth in Davenport, IA. He graduated from Wapello High School in 1944. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. Rex and Virginia Hochstetler were married August 3, 1947, in the Kalona Methodist Church. The couple lived most of the their married life in Kalona. Rex was a retired postal clerk. He had also owned and operated a service station in Kalona. He was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church, Kalona Optimist Club (charter member), Richmond Masonic Lodge# 96, AM FM, Wellman American Legion, Kalona Historical Society (life member) and the Retired American Postal Workers Union. Rex is survived by his wife, Virginia, daughter Elaine (Lloyd) Martin of Littleton CO., son-in-law Dr. Stephen (Glenna) Lowry of Topeka, KS three grandsons, Dr. Stephen John Lowry, Timothy Allen Lowry and Eric Glenn Martin, two great grandchildren Jacob Ross Lowry and Mia Nicole Lowry. Also surviving are three siblings, Patricia Spreacker of Colorado Springs, CO., Marilyn (Tom) Walker of New Braunfells, TX, John (Jaci) Allensworth of Mesa, AZ. His parents, a daughter, Elizabeth Lowry and a sister, Eleanor Thornton, preceded Rex in death. Rex requested in lieu of flowers memorial be directed to Kalona United Methodist Church, Hospice of Washington County or donor's choice.
