. Raymond died Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at his home in Kalona following a lingering illness. His body has been cremated. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Iowa City.
Raymond Gene Spicher age 77, was born March 29, 1933 in Kalona, Iowa the son of George and Velma (Gingerich) Spicher. He graduated from Kalona High School and on February 20, 1954 he was united in marriage to Diane Stumpf at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond. He entered the United States Navy in 1952 and served until 1958. He was a member of the Navy reserves from 1962 until 1989. Raymond operated the Joetown Saw Mill for 15 years. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Richmond AMVET Post 107 where he had served as a past commander. Raymond enjoyed playing cards, woodworking, puzzles, reading and listening to country and western music.
Survivors include his wife Diane of Kalona, seven children and spouses, Dawn Spicher of Kalona, Robin (Jerry) McLaughlin of Maryland, Valerie Spicher of Lawrence, KS, Cindy (Rick) Surly of Kalona, Crystal (Jim) Freese of Delavan, WS, Andrew (Shelia) Spicher of Prior Lake, MN, Barry (Amy) Spicher of Iowa City, 12 grandchidlren, Katrina Surly, Jason McLaughlin, Adam Surly, Melissa McLaughlin, Amanda McLaughlin, Mark Surly, Kate Freese, Nick Spicher, Allie Spicher, Stone Spicher, Zach Spicher and Jade Spicher, three great grandchildren, Petra, Claire and Wesley, three brothers, Dean (Liz) Spicher of Charleston, SC, Lee (Judy) Spicher of The Villages, FL, Ron (Eileen) Spicher of Kalona and a sister, Joyce Craig of Iowa City, IA.
Preceding Raymond in death were his parents.
