Raymond Miller

Raymond J. Miller, 81 of Washington, died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at the Washington County Hospital and Clinics in Washington.

Funeral Services have been set for 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 18, 2004 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Julie Poulsen of the United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will begin Friday at Noon at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 P.M. in the evening. Memorials may be given in the name of Raymond J. Miller at the Funeral Home.

Raymond was born May 23, 1923 in East Pleasant Plain, IA the son of Harry B. and Margaret (Fritz) Miller. On March 26, 1945 he was united in marriage to Norma Munn in Fairfield, IA.

Raymond was a member of the United Methodist Church. He served for sixteen years in the Air Force during WWII and the Korean War. He was employed as a janitor for the Methodist Church, drove a truck, Superintendent of Sanitation in Washington, third generation to serve as a fireman and retired from the U.S. Post Office in 1988. He was also involved with the Cub Scouts for many years and served as a City Councilman.

Survivors include his wife Norma of Washington; five sons Raymond J. Miller and wife Linda of Big Foot, TX, John L. Miller and wife Linda of Urbandale, IA, Terry L. Miller and wife Nancy of Spirit Lake, IA, Roger Miller of Washington and Ralph L. Miller and wife Cathy of Sunrise Beach, MO; two daughters, Norma Jean Stout and husband Kenneth of Washington and Kathy Ann Childs and husband Pat of Ainsworth, IA,; twenty-four grandchildren and forty-one great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother in infancy, two sisters Louise Reshley and Virginia Mae Earl.

Lisa Ruffenach will play the piano and will sing In the Garden and How Great Thou Art.

His sons and son-in-laws are honored to serve as pallbearers.
