R. Norman Bell, 63 of Cedar Rapids, formally of the Salem, Iowa area died unexpectedly Monday, September 27, 2004 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Funeral services have been set for 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 1, 2004 at the Salem Friends Church in Salem, Iowa with Rev. Tom Palmer and Rev. Lewis Savage officiating. Burial will be in the Salem South cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Thursday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 P.M. in the evening. Memorial in the name of R. Norman Bell may be designated to scholarships for Quakerdale.
Norman was born December 11, 1940 near Salem, Iowa the son of Richard T. and Irene (Stanley) Bell. He graduated from Salem High School, William Penn College and received his master’s degree from University of South Dakota Vermillion. He was united in marriage to Merrian Brannon, July 28, 1963 at the Fairfield Friends Church.
He was a member of the Salem Friends Church. Following college he taught school for ten years in Dysart, Reinbeck and Tipton. Norman was a Senior Developer at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids for the last thirty years.
Survivors include his wife Merrian of Cedar Rapids, son Richard Bell of Coralville; daughter Kathleen Pena and husband Thomas of Albuquerque, NM; brother Ron Bell of Monticello, IL; sister Shirley Bell of Lake Barrington, IL; grandchildren, Mariana, JJ and Isabel.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
