Phillip Ward Preston, aged 78, of North Liberty, died Monday, June 15, 2015 after a short illness. Visitation will be held at Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona on Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 4-7 pm. Funeral services will be held at Peterseim Funeral Home on Friday, June 19 at 10:30 am with burial to follow at Sharon Hill Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to join in fellowship at the Kalona Family Restaurant following the burial.
Phil was born in Kalona, Iowa on October 1, 1936 to James Claude and Eldora Louise (Miller) Preston. He graduated from Kalona High School in 1956. At age 14 he drove truck for his Dad at Preston Stockyards. He also worked for Kalona Creamery driving truck on a milk route. In the late 60’s he was employed by Advanced Drainage Systems where he worked for over 40 years. He enjoyed a good ball game, a good meal, playing cards, drinking coffee and the fellowship that went with it.
Survivors include his wife, Sondra Sue (Suzie) Preston, sister Karla Wuerzburger and her husband Tom, daughter Laura Rios and her husband Frank, son Greg Preston and his fiancé Laurie Ann Taylor, “son” Brian Bender and his wife Tonya, 10 grandchildren, and 9 step grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Marjean Sleper, daughter Brenda Mings and granddaughter Jennifer Mings.
