A celebration of life for Paul L. Troyer, 94 of Kalona will be held Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church in rural Kalona with Pastors Don Patterson and Steve Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, June 19 from 2-4 and 5-7 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Lower Deer Creek Kitchen Fund and Iowa City Hospice. Paul Troyer died Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
Paul Lamont Troyer was born February 20, 1923 in rural Kalona, Iowa, the son of Chris and Cora (Miller) Troyer. He graduated from Brush #8 Rural School. Paul was baptized in the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church on March 29, 1936 and remained a member until his death. He served in the Civilian Public Service for the Mennonite Central Committee from March 8, 1944 – July 18, 1946 in Dennison, Iowa. On May 6, 1947 he was united in marriage to Arlene M. Swartzendruber at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church in Wayland. Paul was a farmer and also drove a milk truck for Twin County Dairy, made and delivered ice cream and owned and operated Troyer Trucking. He was an Iowa Hawkeye and St. Loius Cardinal fan.
Survivors include four children and spouses: Gordon (Juanita) Troyer of Kalona, Maxine (Duane) Mast of Kalona, Kenny (Kate) Troyer of Solon, Debra (David) Stannard of Coralville, seven grandchildren: Diane (Jay) Chapman, Rob Mast, Andrea, Patrick, and Christopher (Jody) Troyer, Nicholas and Emily Troyer, three great grandchildren: Collin, Noah and Ben, seven siblings: Wilbur (Nadene) Troyer of Nampa, ID., Wava (Ray) Reschly of Kalona, Don (Phyllis) Troyer of Nampa, ID., John Troyer of Houston, TX., Carolyn (Vern) Vaandrager of Grand Rapids, MI., Mary Troyer (Dick Means) of Riverside IA., Keith (Linda) Troyer of Kalona, and a sister-in-law Evelyn Troyer of Blue Grass, IA. Special family: Devell, Lawanda, Bria, Briana, Deja Azari, Sierra and Nahla Grace Miller.
Preceding Paul in death were his parents, his wife Arlene on October 25, 2013, two brothers: Cleo (Fern) Troyer and Harold Troyer, two sisters: Marjorie Troyer and Lois (Neil) Birky and two sisters-in-law: Fannie and Joanna Troyer.
