A visitation and celebration of life for Paul Howard Miller, 82, of Kalona will be held Sunday, November 30, 2014 from 2:30 – 4:00PM with a memorial service at 4:00PM at the First Mennonite Church in Iowa City. Pastors Bob and Mag Richer-Smith will officiate and a fellowship meal will follow the service. A memorial fund has been established for First Mennonite Church, Pleasantview Home, and Iowa City Hospice. Paul Howard Miller died Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona. Beatty Peterseim Funeral Service is handling the arrangements.
Paul Howard Miller was born June 17, 1932 in Kalona, Iowa the son of Joas and Magdalena (Ropp) Miller. He attended school in the Kalona area. He served in 1W service in Kansas City and Des Moines. On June 21, 1953 he was united in marriage to Ida Fern Miller at the Fairview Church, Kalona. Paul was a mason and also farmed and was a woodworker. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church in Iowa City and the Bricklayer's Union. Paul enjoyed creating woodworking projects for his family members, spending time with his grandchildren, watching Iowa Football and reading books about history and the ocean.
Survivors include his wife Ida Fern of Kalona, five children: Nathan (Diann) Miller of San Antonio, TX, Leonard (Laura) Miller of Homer, AK, Mary Beth (Marvin) Sammons of Riverside, IA, Merrill (Cindy) Miller of Broadway, VA, Regina (Michael) Miller-Maennche of Lone Tree, IA, twelve grandchildren: Toni, Patrick, Jeremy, Kristen, Katie, Alaine, Seth, Tessa, Malinda, Hannah, Annika, Charlie, two great grandchildren: Kennady and Carsen, five siblings: Richard (Martha) Miller and Bernice Miller of Kalona, IA, Vesta Neale of Wellman, Mary Jane Baker of Horseshoe Bend, AR, Ann Miller of Harrisonburg, VA, a sister in law, Ruby Miller of Kalona, two brothers in law: Ed Yoder of Kalona and Levi (Arlene) Miller of Albuquerque, NM.
Preceding Paul in death were his parents, three sisters: Lydia Miller, Fannie A. Miller, Esther Yoder, one brother; Alvin Miller, and four brothers in law: Wayne Miller, Don Neale, Leroy Baker and Dan Miller.
