Ortrun Klara (Flach) Logan was born March 18, 1944, in Greiz, Germany, the daughter of Karl and Ilse (Leonhardt) Flach. She was united in marriage to Marlan Logan on March 1, 1969, at East Union Mennonite Church. She was a homemaker and was involved in many humanitarian efforts involving special education in Brazil. Ortrun was a talented golfer, winning the South American Senior Ladies Championship, and was a member of the Brazilian Golf Association and the local golf association. Marlan and Ortrun lived in Brazil from 1974 until moving back to Kalona in December of 2019. She loved being by the ocean and had a passion for “shelling”, collecting shells to support the ocean environment, and had an extensive collection. Ortrun was a gourmet cook and a fabulous baker, baking personal birthday cakes for many people; and although it may have taken time to get to know her, when you were her friend, you were her close friend.
Survivors include her husband Marlan of Kalona, daughter Inga (Matthew) McCarthy of Rockport, MA, son Dirk Logan of Kalona, two grandsons: Prescott and Eben McCarthy, her brother Albrecht (Maria) Flach of Hildesheim, Germany and her sister Gunde (Manfred) Kauffman of Hamburg, Germany.
Preceding Ortrun in death were her parents and her nephew, Benjamin.
