Orlin J. Leichty, 90, of Wayland, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at his home in Wayland. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Eicher Emmanuel Mennonite Church in rural Wayland, with Pastor Josh Wenger officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery north of Wayland. Visitation will be held Friday, February 21, from 4 – 6 PM at Eicher Church. A memorial fund has been established for Eicher Emmanuel Mennonite Church and Gideons International. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Orlin John Leichty was born December 10, 1934, in rural Wayland, the son of Simon and Lavina (Roth) Leichty. He graduated from Wayland High School and completed his 1W service at Philhaven Hospital in Lancaster, PA. On May 26, 1956, he was united in marriage to Esther Mae Fisher in Lancaster. Orlin was a lifelong farmer and a member of Gideons International and the Eicher Emmanuel Mennonite Church, where he taught Sunday school. He enjoyed family time and putting puzzles together.
Survivors include six children: John (Nancy) Leichty of Ft. Wayne, IN, Audrey Platt of Iowa City, Carma (Ben) Baughman of Washington, IA, Helen (Mike) Meth of Loveland, CO, Keith (Mary) Leichty of Mullica Hill, NJ, Wayne (Melia) Leichty of Avon, IN; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five siblings: Anna Lewis of West Liberty, IA, Kenneth (Kathy) Leichty of Wellman, IA, Wilbur (Deb) Leichty of Wayland, IA, Roger (Evie) Leichty of Harrisonburg, VA, and Phyllis (Emil) Schlatter of Mt. Pleasant, IA.
Preceding Orlin in death were his parents, his wife Esther on October 26, 2022, grandson Carey Meth, son-in-law Shawn Platt, and four siblings: Esther Marner, Rachel Leichty, Russell Leichty, and Lorene Leichty.
