Orion M. Huffer, 80 of Ames, Iowa, died Friday, December 23, 2005, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 29, 2005, at the Beatty Funeral Home, 107 South 15th Ave., Washington, IA, with the Rev. Randy Bobzien of Marion, IA, officiating. Burial will be in the North Hill Cemetery north of Wayland. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Thursday at the Funeral Home with family receiving friends from noon until service time. Memorials may be designated to the First Baptist Church, Marion, IA.
Orion was born March 28, 1925, in rural Fremont County (near Imogene), IA. Orion was the son of Raymond and Charlotte (DePuew) Huffer. He was united in marriage to Anna Mae (Graber) in Iowa City, IA, on June 13, 1948. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Ames. He visited the First Baptist Church of Marion often.
Orion was drafted into the U.S. Army as soon as he became 18 years old, but was allowed to finish school, graduating from Shenandoah High School, Shenandoah, IA. He served with the 13th Armored Division (Black Cats) in many countries in Europe. When he returned, he studied engineering at the University of Iowa. Upon graduation he was employed by the Iowa Highway Dept. (now the DOT). He retired at the age of 70.
Survivors include a daughter Carol Buhr and husband Orlin of Marion, IA; one grandson Brian Buhr and wife Monica of Chula Vista, CA; one great granddaughter Nataly; three brothers: Raymond C Huffer of Plano, TX, Maurice Huffer and wife Dorothy of Jackson, MI. Robert Huffer and wife Thelma of Story City, IA; two sisters: Nola Elliott and husband Russell of Fort Madison, IA, Ellen Robertson of Coralville, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
Orion was preceded in death by his wife Anna Mae; an infant brother James; and his parents Raymond and Charlotte Huffer.
