Opal Goodwin

April 24, 1919 — May 20, 2012

A celebration of life for Opal B. Goodwin, 93 of Washington will be held Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 10:00AM at the First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Jim Cluney officiating. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 23 from noon to 8PM at the First Assembly of God Church where the family will greet friends from 6-8PM. Opal Goodwin died Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the Washington County Hospital following a sudden illness. A memorial fund has been established for the First Assembly of God Church and Hospice of Washington County.

Opal Beatrice Goodwin was born April 24, 1919 in Oelwein, Iowa the daughter of Jay Earl and Carrie Geneva (Bell) Moore. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Eugene Goodwin on September 12, 1935, and enjoyed 72 years of marriage. Opal held a variety of jobs during her life with her most treasured job being a great mother of eight children. She was their utmost teacher in teaching them the true value of life; family. Opal also cherished her time working with Hospice and Home Health Care of Washington. She was stongly committed and faithful to the Assembly of God Churches. Opal enjoyed spending time with her family and going to garage sales.

Survivors include five sons, Jerry (Marilyn) Goodwin of Farmington, AR, John (Patsy) Goodwin of Glendale, AZ, Steven (Ann) of Mesa, AZ, Dan (Linda) Goodwin of Mesa, AZ, Mark (Connie) Goodwin of Washington, one daughter Connie (Don) Allender of Washington, two daughter in laws, Sarah Goodwin of Washington, Kathy Goodwin of Washington, one sister, Alice Ayers of Millersburg, IA, 41 grandchildren, 77 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.

Preceding Opal in death were her parents, husband Rev. Kenneth Goodwin, two sons, Ray and Gearold Goodwin, one daughter, Dorothy Jane Goodwin, a great grandson, Jason Goodwin, six brothers, Raymond, Earl, Harold, Emett, Murray and Lyle Moore and an infant sister, Dorothy Mae Moore.
